Hats

Alright already...I know this hat is tame, but I had to get in the spirit after I saw all the hats at Kate and Williams wedding. I must say, some of the hats were beyond sanity, but maybe that is because we american's aren't into them like the brits.
Sorry I haven't posted lately, but I upgraded to Explorer 9 and now there seems to be a problem. Thankfully I have my handy dandy netbook and it still has the old browser. Talk about a love-hate relationship with computers!!!!.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter :o)

My neighbor, Lorraine, is still in the hospital and it wont seem the same not stopping over at her place for a little Easter cheer. This getting old certainly isn't for the weak. Hopefully she will be able to come home, but her heart just isn't able to do the job, even with the help of pacemakers and defibrulators and her family is doing the best they can when she is home, but it's getting a little beyond their expertise.

I just had to share this pix of happier, healthier days among neighbors.

Peace be with you :o)

New home

Here's the front of the new home that sits on the old Skansie property. Here's the one that used to be there. I like the way they have tried to make it resemble the old one..roof and siding the same color, with the same splendid view, but this one is a whole lot spendier.

71 Today

How did 71 years pass so quickly?? There have been far more joys than sorrows and I wouldn't change a thing.

Daddy's Home

After almost a month in Alaska, daddy is finally home. Oh boy, does it take me back to the days when my dad would leave for long stretches and when he finally came home, it felt like Christmas.

And now for something completely different.

Gig Harbor Viewcam

I was thrilled yesterday to find a view cam of the entrance of the harbor with Mt. Rainier in the distance. Just click on the link :o)

When our oldest was a baby, we lived in a tiny cabin that sat smack dab next to the water, just across from the spot where the lighthouse now sits. I loved it there and wish I had oodles of money so I could buy the house that replaced our house as it's now for sale.

Toro

Well..I just broke down and bought myself my birthday gift !! A new Toro self-propelled mower. How exciting is that!! I really wanted a Nikon camera, but because my old mower is ready for the junk heap, I had to do the priorities thing. My one hope is that it outlives me :O) Or... wait..should it be the other way around????

OH....and don't forget Friday is opening day for the movie, Atlas Shrugged. I have not read the book, but am really looking forward to seeing the movie.

Denali Menu

I came across these precious puppies yesterday while poking through stuff. I think I could possibly become a hoarder if I don't exercise some self control. The husky pups and other husky pictures with names such as Blizzard, Smokey, Wolf, Jack, Mageik, Cheechako and Rye, were painted by a young "territory" of Alaska artist Josephine Crumrine, for the menus on the Alaska Steamship ships that carried passengers and I've been saving mine since we sailed on the Denali in December of 1952, bringing them out occasionally when retelling the stories of our great Alaska adventures. Our ship pulled into pier 42 in Seattle, and when I googled it, there is no longer a pier 42....it seems piers 39-46 were long ago filled in and covered over to become one huge container shipping port. So much for history :o( I see the menus for sale on ebay and assorted places, but I wouldn't part with mine for any amount of money. Though I do have a letter Governor Egan wrote to me that might be worth something...hmmmm.

Flag Salute

I saw this on Facebook and had to post it here. I can't imagine myself not standing for the Pledge of Allegiance when I was young and I'm so very thankful that I live in this country.

We have a new violin player in our orchestra. She is 18 years old, just arrived from China, is living with a woman up the street from me and will be going to Tacoma Community College for the next two years, then she will enroll in a 4 year college. She comes from an 8000 pupil school, but has never played in an orchestra so I'm thinking she's going to love her new home and for sure one of the songs we are playing; Dvorak's 9th Symphony !!! What's not to love :o)

Sitka Herring

Another Sitka herring season is underway and it seems there is almost always some kind of mishap. This year it's the brand new Infinite Grace that took a tumble when the herring inside the net pulled the rigging down and the boat over. Luckily she stayed afloat and was back in action after repairs were made.

Warning...before you click on the video, turn the volume down or you'll lose your mind.

Here is another short video taken by the pilot of a seaplane during the mishap.

Beautiful Bride

Well there ya have it....the bride was beautiful, the wedding was lovely and hopefully her dad has finally recovered from giving his only daughter away.
