Red Sky at Night

I took this last night at my friend, Len's place  and the "red sky at night" thing didn't work !!! It rained all day today and finally around 5:00 the sun shone.  I am trying to get to know my new camera, but I took care of two  wiggly, giggly little girls today so didn't get much of a chance to take pictures.  Maybe tomorrow...cause...like the song says....the sun'll come out tomorrow, bet yer bottom dollar that, tomorrow, we'll get sun :o) Oh...and if you like the view...his place is for sale, with beach access. It's a wonderful place to live...quiet, nice neighbors and just a short run into the harbor :o)

New Camera

Well, I finally bit the bullet and bought a Nikon SLR camera.  This is my first attempt at taking a picture with it.  With all the buttons and stuff, I know it will take time to figure it all out, but I'm thinkin this is gonna be a whole lotta fun.  Again, I think about mom and how much she would have loved all the toys we have now as she had such a "good eye".

It's a Ford

Len and I spent all day yesterday looking and finally buying him a new Ford Fusion.  He had a very nice extened cab truck with very low miles which he traded in, and he traded it in because it was just too much truck for him to handle. I think he will enjoy his new car, I know I did, as I was the one who drove it home :o)

What's Up At The Symphony

Phew...our concert is over and we can think about other things.....like the music for our next concert :o)
We made a lot of mistakes last night in our first two numbers...but we didn't let that stop our fun and when we played What's Up At The Symphony, our audience forgot the suffering we had put them through and the  smiles came back on their faces.
One of the numbers we tortured to death was Afternoon Of a Faun by Debussy. It is a flutists dream to play and when accompanied with really good players its incredible as it's a lot of "feeling"when to come in.  Last night quite a few lost their sense of feel and ability to count so there was no fooling anyone that we were hopelessly lost through the first half.  We had tried to play it a couple of years ago, and it was not possible, but our condutor felt we were ready for it now.  Nope...not ready yet.
Here's another cute number we did called Happy Tooter. Our conductor rescued it out of the trash bin 30 years ago when he was a student at the U of W. He had it in his garage and debated  whether he should keep it or toss it... see what you think.  It's fun to play so I vote keep :o)

Amparito Roca

Yesterday was the last practice for our concert next week so we played our hearts out. By "our", I mean the folks in the New Horizon's Band I belong to. We're a bunch of older folks who dearly love to make music and every Thursday morning  we meet at the Lakewood Elks to practice. Our oldest member is now 92 and plays the oboe which he took up in his later years. There are also two others in their 90's and then there are the young musicians in their 60's :o)  Have a listen to us as we play    Amparito Roca...it's a fun song  and of course we flutes love our 30 second solo part at 1:05 where we get to go crazy :o)

Birthday Girl

Well..Ing is now officially 5.  All I can say is...she's a ham...an absolute ham.  If you look carefully, you'll see a picture of her when she was about 4 years younger, was holding a rock and was defying anyone to take it from her...and just to the left of her is a cake that her big sister frosted and decorated for her. It was an absolutely wonderful day and I feel blessed to have such a nice family :o)

Lipstick

It's Revlon, 575, Love That Pink, if you think it's a shade  you might wear :o)  Jacob was awfully quiet while in the other room yesterday and when he finally came to show grandma his artwork, it was all I could do not to laugh. It seems most little ones attempt this at least once  along with giving themselves a haircut when they're finally able to manipulate scissors.  For me, it seems like my lipstick never stays on, but with him, we scrubbed and scrubbed and never did get it all off.

Speaking of pink ..makes me think of pink slime and school lunches.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's day to you all.  We are having a cornbeef and cabbage dinner this evening with friends. Len is doing the cornbeef, I made two loaves of beerbread and our guests will be bringing desert and wine.  I am looking forward to the evening because two of the guests will be meeting again after more than fifty years. They met the first and only time at a fraternity party at UPS...then it was CPS I think... there is more to the story, but I think I will leave it unspoken  for now :o)

Oh..and the reason for the picture of the little blue and while checked robe is cause I wanted to show it to you before I give it to Ingrid for her birthday. Her birthday was yesterday but her big sis and I are going to cook up a party for her tomorrow.  Oh..and the robe is for her doll.

Ides of March

Today is March 15th, the middle of the month, the Ides of March, and this is what it look like at Paradise :o) I checked my iPod and see nothing but the same for the next week.  Lordy, if we don't get a glimpse of the sun occasionally, I doubt we'll be sane much longer :o)

I don't know if any of you are as interested in Obama's life influences as I am, but these two articles today are interesting.

Pants

Hmmmmm...hmmmmm....talk about extremes in pants. These women were together yesterday and each chose something quite different from the other. I think I like Michelle's outfit, but am not sure she needed them so huge.

Little Drummer Boy

My poor little drummer boy is home sick..along with daddy who is home sick. They have the diahrea kind of sick and are home on the couch hoping they live to see another day :o)  It's funny...when they are well and beat the drum til it drives ya crazy, you can't take it, but you would be more than happy to have them well and beating on the drum til it drives ya crazy. Let's hope they're all better soon.

Tulips

My friend, Arlene, stayed the night at my place in "her room" a couple days ago and brought these tulips as a thank you.  They were closed tight when they arrived, but are now open and ever so pretty :o)
Reminder...don't forget to set your clocks ahead one hour tonight.

While surfing, I found this site. A good friend of mine lives in Gustavus and works at this inn in the summer as a cook.  When you have time, go through the photos and it will give you a good idea as to why she calls Alaska, home.

Oh..and if you have an extra 8 minutes to spare, listen to one of Andrew Breitbarts last interviews and the message  he gives to us all.... to carry on.

Amazing turnout

Our area leader told us they had brought along 600 name tags, figuring that would be more than enough, but it came nowhere close. By the time I worked my way to the beginning of the line to register, we were reduced to good old fashioned masking tape and I have no idea how many rolls they used, but there were so many at our 26th district caucus at Chapel Hill church that they had to send many of the people downstairs into another large meeting area.
The room was alive with enthusiasm as each group voted on what was important and not so important to be taken up later down the road, and it was a circus once we started voting on delegates.  Because of the huge crowd, it was all we could do to hear our man in charge, but we perservered and I was delighted to see the young man who sat next  to me chosen as a delegate...and he was a Santorum man :o)  So many of the folks attending were close to my age, but scattered among us were some great young folks who truly care about this country and the direction it's headed. Let's hope they have friends who feel as they do....basically...anyone but Obama.

Heck, even some democrats are bolting...this is a hoot.

Oh..and I saw this comment this morning on a blog......
"I don’t care how high the price of gas goes if that’s what it takes to get this President out of office. Just consider it the price of freedom, a patriotic duty."

March Concert

Here's an early reminder that our March concert is just around the corner. As usual, a couple of our songs are not easy, but how boring it would be for all  if we played only things that weren't challenging. I'm sure the audience can tell which are which and  I'm also sure they are very forgiving knowing that nary a one of us has had any intensive schooling in music and  how much we love this  opportunity to learn as we go.....and...lordy...thanks to our very patient and talented conductor, have we ever learned  a bunch :o)
Here is a sample of   Irish Rhapsody No.1  that we will be playing. My dream is to sound as good as they sound.

Tomorrow, March 3rd,  is  the Washington State Republican Party’s Precinct Caucus.  The precinct caucuses begin at 10 AM and will end around noon. It's recommended that you  arrive 30 minutes early to check in.  See ya at Chapel Hill church :o)

Andrew Breitbart

I was sad to hear of Andrew Breitbart's passing this morning. Here is a Christian Science Monitor article about him.
And...here he was recently  at CPAC.
Another.
He will surely be missed.
