New House

This house is being built not far from where I live and I ususally go past it when I'm off and running. Most of the roof  makes sense, but I have not been able to figure out the front part. Today I noticed there is a deck sticking out from the main part of the house and an interesting beam is perched in the air,  resembling a huge smile.  Tomorrow, if they finally put it in place, I will take another picture and show you how and where it goes. I really do admire builders....

Heroes

In my book, and everyone elses, these two young men are heroes. Rather than go into detail here, read the story. My son crewed with one of the fellows on a friends boat and said he is a really geat guy.  Oh, and if you look at the white boat in the background, the Julia B, here is a little bit of trivia. The boat Julia B, was named after Julia Babich, the wife of Spiro Babich, who was probably the most successful  fisherman in Gig Harbor years ago. The boat is old, but it looks like it's still going strong.

Baja sunrise

Talk about a beautiful sunrise in Cabo....It would be fun to spend some time in the hotel that has this great view cam, but I see just one night costs over 3 thousand dollars..Guess I'll just stay home and enjoy the view form my desk :o)

Almost twin towers

I  posted this picture a while back, but before I messed with it. We were having a picnic in the late afternoon one fall on the Gig Harbor side of the bridges and with the angle of the sun it really highlighted  the towers. Then to catch the Amtrak train passing beneath, I thought it was a cool pix.

Mr. Producer

National Geographic TV first approached the Air Force in January 2012 with an idea for a show about combat rescue. Once they found  an Air Force unit the film crew could embed with, they headed to Afghanistan almost immediately after getting the green light, said series producer Jared McGilliard.  The six-episode television documentary exploring Air Force combat rescue in Afghanistan through the stories of deployed Airmen premieres February 18, at 10 p.m. EST/PST.
It's been fun watching Jared as he's traveled to heck and gone working on assorted TV series. This time he is Mr. Producer and of course we are all enjoying his success. Jared graduated from high school with my youngest and this picture was taken of him and his sweety at son's wedding. He is one of those full of life people and can charm the pants off absolutely anyone. I wish him only success. Now if I can just find a friend who has the National Geographic channel.

Finished

Well, here ya have it...the final results. Not bad for a do it yourself project, done in record time, at a very low cost.  The flooring is a stick on product, just as the old flooring was and as the bathroom is used sparingly, it should hold up well for quite some time...as long as the little lad is careful with  his aim :o)

Bathroom overhaul

A small leak in the toilet lead to this. This is the upstairs bathroom in the house where my sisters and I grew up. The toilet was a 50's model and survived until just last week. I'm thinkin it's demise was probably due to  the seat being flung up so a little boy could pee. With girls, the seat stayed in the down position all those years, but with a young, lively lad in the house, I'd say even the new one is doomed. Only time will tell. Tomorrow, I will show you the finished project.

Tomorrow in Sydney

I spotted the Crystal Symphony easing her way toward the Sydney Harbor Bridge just a bit ago. It seems strange to be the middle of the day of  Feb. 9th here and already tomorrow morning in Sydney.  My today is their yesterday :o)It also looks like a warm summer morning and a day of adventure for a lucky bunch or world travelers.

The first

She's not the most beautiful boat, but she's tough. The Lucky Star goes up and down the west coast from Alaska to San Diego in pursuit of salmon and squid and right now she's home again and, as it turns out, she's the first boat to use the new dock. Of course we had to get a picture.  It seems folks are loving having something to watch as they dine next door at the Tides Tavern. It's not often you get to see the commercial fishermen handle their gear. I think this new dock is a win win for everyone.

Many Uses

Maybe you've already found that a music stand has more uses than just holding music. I've been watching Downton Abbey and each episode is over 50 minutes so one's hands can get mighty tired holding an iPad. I have a comfy desk chair and a good place to rest my feet, along with my handy dandy parabolic heater aimed my way, so all I have to do is pull the music stand right next to me  and I'm ready for the long haul.

Treasures

Well....I don't care what you think...Mardi Gras is just around the corner.

Cabo sunrise

What a beautiful morning in Cabo. I envy anyone who is there or headed that way.

Mittens

Berg and Ing finally have a kitty. His name is Mittens and he is ever so happy now. They found him at a local pet store where he had been brought in totally neglected. He was given the standard flea bath, worm pills etc at the store so when the girls took him home all was spose to be well, but it wasn't. Mittens would sleep on their lap for hours, but didn't eat well and would find a dark place far away to hide. They could see all was not well so they took him to the vet. and after being rehydrated, given antibiotics and taken home at night with the vet for a couple of days, Mittens finally sprang to life and is at last behaving like a kitten.

St. Thomas

At last..a picture from St. Thomas. The granddaughter of a dear friend of mine moved lock, stock and barrel to St. Thomas to start a new life. She sold or gave away all her furnishings, got rid of her car, and she and her 8 month old  son headed off last week to start a new life in a whole new world. She has visited St. Thomas before so knew where she was going, and with the help of a dear, long time gal friend who has lived there for years, she wont be alone on her new journey. We are all pulling for her and of course, looking forward to lots of pictures and stories. The picture is the view from her friends home. Talk about gorgeous !!!!!!
