I see Jacob put down his trucks and trains to try out his new box of crayons. Since he's strapped into his chair, he might just sit long enough to create his first masterpiece :o)

Deborah Henson-Conant
Deborah Henson-Conant will be bringing her electric harp to the Pantages today for one of Tacoma Symphony Orchestra's "Unleashing the Unusual" concerts. Read about her in the News Tribune and listen to one of my favorites here. This is another that is fun to watch.
I must say...the english horn is played beautifully.

Cleanin and Clearin
After hauling a massive amount of ivy and other assorted greenery away, son's backyard is looking more the way it looked when I was a kid growing up there. The ivy had grown up the cedar trees and was no doubt choking them to death. Hopefully with all the cutting and pruning being done, they will be okay. I'm not sure what they will do with the dirt, but I think some grass seed and mowing might be the answer.

March 19th Concert
If you like music and have no plans on the 19th of March, join us at Peninsula High School for a fun evening of Dvorak. The music is fun to play and I think we play most pieces fairly well, but Carneval, if we play it, is really too difficult. Many times I have wanted to take the music, once we have finished playing it, grab it, stand up, tear it to bits and toss it in the air like confetti. I might yet do it. Check out Gig Harbor Orchestra and have a listen to some of the songs.

Bridal Shower
The little gal standing with the halo behind her head works at the local restaurant where a group of we women meet each Friday morning for coffee. We have watched our favorite waitress since she started working there at age 16 and now at age 28, is going to be marrying in just two weeks. Thanks to the owner of the restaurant, we managed to pull off a suprise bridal shower for her while still working her shift.
On another note...prayers go out to the people of Japan after yesterday's deadly quake and tsunami. If any group of people can recover from such a tragedy, it's the Japanese.
I must say, it was incredibly fascinating watching the tsunami once it reached the west coast of the US. Here is a good video, taken near Crescent City.
And, here is the Crescent City harbor with the first picture showing the Flamingo, a boat that used to fish out of Gig Harbor. Isn't it comforting knowing that we live on the "ring of fire" :o)

Bag Lady
I mean...look at the bag the lady is carrying. It cost $1,000.00 and is from an american designer. How, I wonder, do I manage with a $12.95 bag from Walmart??

Toys Toys Toys
I'm all set for the evening with my Kindle and new iPod touch. My 7 year old granddaughter saved her money and bought herself an iPod which drove me to doing the same and we have had fun talking to each other, face to face, on facetime. I remember growing up thinking how cool it would be to be able to see the person I was talking to on the phone. Well, I guess we're there !!! Growing up there was no Amazon.com, but I sure wish I had bought stock in that company years ago.

Summer and Winter
Mt. Rainier has had plenty of snow this year. I got a kick out of the summer picture versus winter and all the trees that are now in over their heads. Unless we have a really hot summer, the snow should take a long time to melt.
We used to ski in that area with just tow ropes and skis that were longer than we were tall. It's amazing that we actually skied as well as we did without becoming entangled in those unwieldly boards :o)

Sleeping Beauty
Gig Harbor is filled with a whole lot of talented people with some mighty fine lenses. Steve Biber, John Pleau, Pete Ansara and Jim Nelson, to name a few, are whose pictures I collected from the Gig Harbor, WA Facebook site to put together this video of our beautiful sleeping beauty, Mt. Rainier. They said it would be okay to use their photos if they were given credit. I even added a little of my own flute music to the mix. Turn off the sound at the bottom of the page, put in a pair of ear plugs and have a look and a listen.

PS 22
I've posted videos of PS 22's chorus on this site before, so was tickled to see them perform at the Academy Awards. Here they are singing Over the Rainbow and here they are at practice. I love the way they feel the music. What a neat bunch of kids and even better, what a neat teacher. Without his enthusiasm there would be none of the opportunities those kids are enjoying. Bless the teachers who love their work and give so much.
