Edison Home

Found this pix among mom's slide. This was the home of the Louis Edison family and it sat where the Peninsula High School football field is now.
Thankfully, it wasn't torn down. It was moved about a half mile up 144th, and continues on as a cozy little home for some lucky family.
We spent lots of time visiting in this darling little house as kids and have so many good memories. The one thing I remember most was the huge fireplace they had in their living room and how we would huddle around it on snowy days after playing outside.

5 Weeks

It's amazing how quickly a baby turns into a social being. Jacob is only 5 weeks old and you can see how tuned into mama he is now.
We grandparents are so lucky to be able to watch the changes thanks to all the toys there are now.
Who would have thought when we were kids that you could grab the phone and send a picture, or that you could, with that picture, put it in a place where the world could see.

Veteran's Hospital

Our New Horizon's Band played at the Veteran's Hospital on American Lake yesterday. I had never been there before and this was a good opportunity to check it out, make a little music and give back to some folks who have given a lot for our country.
There was a well maintained auditorium, stage and all, where we played, but one of the gals who plays flute in our band and just retired as a nurse practicioner at the hospital said that the hospital is pretty tired !!!
This housing must be for those in charge of the facility and it was right across a quiet street from the lake. Not a bad place to live if you ask me.

North To Alaska

It's north to Alaska for the Lucia and Mystic Lady. It was a beautiful evening as they headed out of the harbor. Hopefully the weather will be this way the whole trip and hopefully salmon will be plentiful and that they will get their share.

Mama and Jacob

Jacob is growing like a weed. The kids stopped by the other day for a quick visit and I grabbed a quick pix.
He is such a good baby and they're doing such a good job as first time parents.
I must say, it's so nice being a granny and not having all that responsibility any more. Who said getting old can't be good.

Soundsations

I had a nice evening last night. A friend of mine sings in a local choir and they had a concert just up the street from me at one of our local churches. They had a wonderful selection and one of my favorites, as always, was Shenandoah. One of the singers also plays flute, in fact plays in the orchestra that I play in, and she played for this song.

If you want to hear the video, scroll down to the Playlist and turn off the sound.

Cottonwood

We took a walk last week along the boardwalk at the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. The cottonwood trees were in the process of shedding and it looked as if it had snowed or that heaven's washing machine had malfunctioned.
Along with the cottonwood, there were birds aplenty, swooping overhead, filling up on tasty bugs, and just ahead of us, a young deer strolled under the boardwalk, stood quietly watching us, then scampered off in the tall grass.
The Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge is a wonderful place to visit if you are in need of a quiet walk alone, or with a friend, along a beautifully constructed boardwalk, across marshes, among giant maple and cottonwood trees that are filled with an incredible variety of birds. Along the mile and half trail you also pass two identical old barns whose eaves are home to a multitude of barn swallows busily feeding their young. Along the seashore they have removed the huge old trees so that the sea and fresh water can combine once again and give a home to the tiny salmon before they go off to sea.

I've mentioned the Avalon a couple of times in my blog and here is an update. It saddens me to see her in this condition as she is really part of the heart and soul of Gig Harbor.

Day of Blessing

The weather cooperated and the harbor was abuzz with boats yesterday for the Blessing of the Fleet. While the many commercial seiners were rafted together being blessed, the Amazing Grace, blessed with a nice breeze, circled the boats, threading her way among the multitude of large and small pleasurecraft.

Rhapsody Concert

Tonight is our Rapsody Concert. We're playing music that will be familiar to most and I'm sure, most will enjoy, such as Rhapsody in Blue and Hungarian Rhapsody, by Liszt.
Both have tricky parts for our clarinet players, though of course, they are lovin it !!!
Check out our Gig Harbor Peninsula Civic Orchestra website for the program.
Our conductor, Matthew Underwood, arranged the music for Bohemian Rhapsody and did a fantastic job.

RV World

I woke up the other morning and there, before my eyes, was an RV parked in my yard. Then I remembered that I had told son number 3 that it was fine if a couple of his crew members parked it there while they work on the net.
I ran a power cord to them and today, when they buy a cable cord, they will have all the luxuries of home.
I'm not sure my neighbors are terribly pleased with the whole thing, but since it's only for a couple weeks, I guess they will have to live with it :o)
I've mentioned to friends of mine who live in the midwest that they are also welcome to park here if they ever get out this way with their trailers. As you can see, there is plenty of room.

Ten Days Young

Jacob is quite happy sitting on daddy's lap. He's such a good baby. Eats, sleeps and occasionally squawks. The gang came for dinner and he slept in granny's arms all the while they worked their way through huge plates of spaghetti, finishing off the meal with fresh rhubarb pie, thanks to Len's garden.
