Zara

If you're a british royalty watcher like I am, then you'll enjoy these pictures of Zara Phillips' recent wedding.
She is the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth and daughter of Princess Ann Phillips.
I remember watching the coronation of Queen Elizabeth on TV when I was young and have, for some reason, been fascinated by their lives. Maybe it's the idea of never having any anonymity, as wealthy as they are, their lives are never really their own, someone is always watching. Lordy, it's so nice being a nobody :o)

Garage Sale

Yesterday was the first day of St. Nick's annual garage sale. For me, it's a chance to go through my closets and rid myself of clothing that hasn't been worn the past year and probably wont be worn ever again. Plus, it makes room for new :o)
I, or course, joined the throngs of junk lovers and picked through others folks trash, knowing there was a treasure in there somewhere.
One gal I talked to was thrilled with her two new coolers and jump rope. Myself...I bought 6 much needed ski poles and a wood, hand made, toy ferry boat that came with 4 tiny wood cars. Why the ski poles? To hold up my tomato plant of course...I make a tripod of three and go from there. I can hardly wait for next years sale :o)

Container Ship

We spent the nicest evening with old friends last night in the most beautiful home that is nestled into the hillside above "old Tacoma". This was part of our 180 degree view of Vashon Island, Dash Point, Commencement Bay and finally Mount Rainier. There were oodles of sailboats out enjoying the warm summer evening, while a parasailer floated through the sky past tugs, assorted small craft and finally a huge container ship, headed into port. If that wasn't enough, while checking the view from the 3rd story deck, we spotted a freight train and an Amtrak train pass below. Oh...and the food...it was so good !!!!!!! Thanks again, Jeanne :o)

Comforts of Home

As most of you already know, there is a fellow living in the woods above my place. I saw him walking on the other side of town today so decided today was the day I would take my trusty camera and check out his pad. To my surprise, a refrigerator greeted me as I rounded the brushy corner into his abode. I didn't open either of the fridge doors so have no way of knowing what he has inside, but because there are no electrical outlets, I doubt it can be good.
The one thing that really puzzles me is, how in the world did he move it there.
I really hate to think of what and who might be coming and going when I am sound asleep at night.

New House

Thought you'd enjoy seeing how the house remodel is coming along. The builder took off the old roof and put on new, changing the lines along the way, which made for more space upstairs. He also added widows across the entire front upstairs so the owners will be able to enjoy the wonderful view of the bay. Here is a look at what the old house looked like. It sure makes me want to do sumthin with this old place :o)

Train ride

Jacob is totally in love with trains and to be able to ride one was a dream come true. I love the ever so serious look on his face as he rides along on a sunny afternoon at Remlinger Farms in Carnation. The Tolt River Railroad Steam Ride will take you along the Tolt River and around the Remlinger Farms property. Jacob's mama grew up in that area and spent lots of summers picking berries and enjoying all that the farm offers which includes fresh berry pie at their restaurant. If you can't get to the farm to buy your favorite pie, you can find them in the fozen food section of your local supermarket :o)

Meditaton From Thais

Sarah Chang is recognised as one of the world's leading violinists. She debuted with the New York Philharmonic at the age of 8 and has performed with the greatest orchestras, conductors and accompanists internationally, spanning more than two decades.
I love listening to her play Meditation From Thais. I also love listening to another version by James Galway.
I have the sheet music and fool with it, but lordy, lordy, lordy.....they say practice makes perfect. I have serious doubts :o)

Ladies In White

Power to the Ladies in White :o) These women are marching in Cuba for infomation on their loved ones who were imprisoned for being dissidents. They were attacked by Castro's State Security, injuring 16 of them. They are doing what the Madres de plaza de Mayo did in Argentina started doing in 1977 over the disappearance of their children. The government has admitted to abducting over 9,000 children, and the mothers say the number is more like 30,000. They have been marching over three decades, still hoping to find out where if possible, what happened to their children. Maybe it's time women throughout the world started marching because it's obvious that the men have done nothing but create a huge mess :o)

Like new

Like new...well, almost. I finally bit the bullet yesterday and put new tubes on the old girl. It's been a long time since I tore a bike apart, but in my day, I could change a flat for the kids in record time. I bought my bike, probably 40 years ago, at St. Nick's annual garage sale for the staggering sum of $12.00. It has served all my family well and now that my grandchildren are into biking, and now that we have the wonderful Cushman trail, I think the old Schwinn is going to see many more miles of fun. And, yes, I do have a helmet :o)

Buh bye

Ingy is waving goodbye to the Alaska ferry as it heads off to the next port. Sumthin tells me she'd love to be on board. I know I would. Imagine being able to look out the window of your home and watch one of those beautiful boats pass by, along with assorted tugs, barges, fishing boats and many a pleasure craft. Sure makes me want to hop on board.

Legend before

Found this picture of the Legend that I took as she readied for this years salmon season. The boat tied alongside belongs to his son. Again, it's such a worry when you hear bad news as so many of our family members fish and we know the risks. God Bless our fishermen.

Legend, no more

Pictures like this one break my heart. One of our Gig Harbor boats, the Legend, ran into the rocks and burned this week in southeast Alaska. No one was injured, but I'm sure all the belongings of the crew, plus the net were lost. No doubt they were able to get away from the boat in their skiff. So very very sad.

Lemonade 50 cents

Lemonade anyone??? Here they are again, just below grandma's house, selling lemonade in the far north, where the sun is shining and ships are passing. It's a shame the tugboat captain can't stop for a nice, refreshing glass of lemonade. And, I hope you noticed the bouquet of fresh flowers and norwegian flag. Petersburg truly is little Norway.

Big Boy Toys

I went for a walk yesterday along the water, in the wonderful sunshine we had, and stood for a while on the dock, watching this fella work on his boat. I love the color as it's almost the same color Nick painted the Maria years ago. How he decided on that particular color is kind of a fun story. He was at Shilshole Marina for some reason and he spotted a fellow painting an incredible yacht this same color. He walked out and mentioned to the painter what a beautiful color he thought it was and what was the name of paint. Well, the boat belonged to one of the CEO's at Boeing and the painter told him the color blue to buy and how much black to add. Though she's had 2 different owners and two different names, Maria is still that wonderful blue.

Fish of the day

This is it :o) Not sure if there is enough to feed the bunch of them, and not sure if it will be baked or barbecued, but let's hope there are a couple of side dishes to add to the feast.

Ready for the 4th

Independence Day in Alaska!!! What more could you wish for. And in Petersburg, no less :o)
The girls are standing on the deck of their grandparents home, ready for some fun filled 4th of July action. The one thing that will be difficult will be waiting until dark for the fireworks :o)

Independence Day

Have a safe and sane Independance Day everyone !!!
Oh...and give this a read :o) It has nothing to do with this day, but it sure made me laugh.

Dawn To Dusk

Because I get up early and always check the harbor entrance webcam, I was in awe at the sight of the mountain this morning...so...I wasted gobs of time by saving a bunch of pictures as the sky lightened and put them together in a video with a little touch of Galway. I finished it off with a picture I had saved a while back at dusk, with the moon and mountain shining in all their glory. Lordy, if I didn't spend so much time playing on this silly computer, who knows what I might accomplish in life :o)

How time flies

Here we are into July already. A few days ago I was going through some old pictures and found this cute one of Nick and Mike in their "Maria" caps. Nick had them made just for fun and was ever so pleased with the them. It's hard to believe he's been gone 26 years this month and that now, Mike has a little boy not much younger than he was in the picture.
