Concert watchers

It was another beautiful evening and another crowd pleasing concert last night. Steve Stefanowitz, who is blind, and whose fingers flew over his guitar strings at breathtaking speed, belted out songs for an hour and a half, accompanied by another guitar  player and a drummer. It was the kind of music you could sit and listen to, dance to, or play ball to.  The crowd was smaller than last week, and there weren't as many boats, but  everyone enjoyed.

VDH

Victor Davis Hanson...a must read.

It's articles like this that make me want to poke a needle in my eye. If you can't afford diapers, how can you afford kids. Course when I think of diapers, I go back to the days when we used to buy flannel and make our own...and use them over and over and over again. Heck, if you live in sunny  California, and aren't working, you have a lot of time to wash them and hang them outside on the line...ya don't even need a dryer.
Here's another take on the diaper derby.
Another good read.
And another...this one just has to be a joke..truly..a joke.

Bremen

As you know, I am an avid ship follower and if you aren't, maybe this will pique your interest. The Bremen is headed west along the nothern coast of  Russia. Last summer I watched the Hanseatic travel  east along the Northwest Passage with interesting stops along the way. Hopefully the webcam will keep working as the Bremen moves along. What a great way to see the world from the comfort of your own home.
Here is the ship's location.

One year

Hard to believe it's been a year since Len passed away.  It seems like a long long time ago and it seems like yesterday .

Smiles

The girls stayed with me yesterday so that their mom could help their other grandmother move. We started out early and the plan was to ride the trolley, but as we stood at the bus stop and waited, we  noticed that the schedule said they wouldn't start running for almost  hour, so instead, we went for a walk, stopping at the candy store and the new "pink" store which is filled with cute earrings, purses, bracelets, scarves...all things girly. Once we'd seen it all, we continued along, checking out all the artwork from the "chalk walk" that took place over the weekend. At the Maritime Pier we saw the biggest starfish any of us had ever seen, thanks to a very low tide, then it was back to Kelley's for lunch. The building directly behind the girls is the Tides Tavern, one of my favorite places to eat, and the dock to the left of the Tides was the original Babich dock. It belonged to my husbands uncle, Spiro Babich, but now belongs to two separate owners. Once home, I helped Bergen build a denim skirt and about that time, Jacob showed up so it was kids, kids, kids til 5:00, then granny died :o)
Tonight's Concert at the Park  will  feature the Beatnik's ...they put on a great show and are the most popular, which means the street in front of the park will be closed and there will dancing in the street tonight :o)  I must say, summer in Gig Harbor is a hoot.

Earrings

Oh what Ing wouldn't do to have real earrings.  I think these tiny stick ons are the perfect solution to pierced ears.

Birthday lunch

Whatta we have here??  Why another birthday lunch!!! The birthday girl is the gal second from the left and I"m thinkin she's 84, but I could be wrong. The gal third from the left is 89 and will be 90 on Jan, 30th. How in the world did it happen that all my friends got so old....well in numbers, but not in spirit. Heck, we did a study since our table was next to both the women's and men's restrooms...and in our study, we found that men use the restroom at least 5 times as many times as the  women. Some wash their hands, some don't...some make an added adjustment when leaving...if you know what I mean and some don't. What I guess all that information proves is that we may be old, but we still have a really good time together :o)

Harbor tour

We had front row seats at Anthony's last night and watched as Tom Drohan, who runs a small harbor cruise business/Destiny Tours,  finished loading his passengers and set off  for a two hour cruise. I noticed they went in past one of my son's boats and knowing Tom as well as I do, I am sure he had lots of fun stories to tell about growing up with our local fishermen. HIs folks owned and  ran the Harbor Inn Restaurant for years, with the family living above the business. It was one of my favorite places to eat because of the view, and of course, the food. We were all so sad when they sold the building and business, and even sadder to see the restaurant close , with the building now housing a beauty shop and real estate office.

Shop keeper

While Ing was at my house yesterday busily  running her music store, Berg was busy Bergyboarding:0) Her mama took the picture and if she'd had a really good zoom lense, it would have been an incredible shot.

Happy face

Are we loving this train ride or what !!!Jacob was off to the the berry farm near Woodinville with his mom a couple days ago and from the look on his face, you can see he's lovin every minute of it. When he comes to my house and we get started with the Thomas trains...we usually have to accompany the play with one of three songs....Frieght Train Freight Train, City of New Orleans, or his favorite of all, O Trenzinho do Caipira

I was reading one of my favorite bloggers this morning and I think Elizabeth and I were both suffering from "Acedia" last week. I think mine was from my occasion smash and burn asthma thingy as I'm feeling much more like joining the rat race again, though at my own pace. As I think about a trip through Croatia on a gulet, I think not. If I knew I'd be well on June 15th and stay well for two weeks, I'd give it a try, but think maybe I will spend my money on a new carpet or  fix the chimney..

Shadow

I'm back...I've been  a shadow of myself these past few days as I was down again with the same old,, same old. Life is so much nicer when yer lungs aren't filled with gunk...now I know how a car must feel when in need of a new fuel filter.
I am so glad the trial is over and Mr. Z was found not guilty by a smart bunch of women.  The whole thing was a tragedy, but if one took the time to listen to the facts and witness...it was a no brainer.
I had an interesting invite last evening from a friend who is planning a Gulet cruise with 3 other couples and they have room for one more person..not couple, but single person...to cruise the Croatian coast. There is nothing I'd like more than to join them, but it's kinda spendy and I haven't seen the itinerary so if there are no stops in Sumartin, on the island of Brac, I wouldn't be interested.
Okay..now go do what I had to do...google  gulet .. :o)

Harbor Winds

Well...here we are in all our glory, playing our second summer concert. The first was at the annual Maritime Gig in down town Gig Harbor, and this one was at Sehmel Homestead Park. When finished we all said goodbye until September.  Hopefully all will return and word has it that more folks  are interested in joining,  so we have no where to go but up !!!   Hip hip hooray :o)

Sehmel Park

This is where the Harbor Winds will perform at Sehmel Homestead park on Wednesday evening, 6:00pm. I'm thinkin a folding chair would be in order along with  a nice bottle of wine and something to nibble on. Hopefully the music will be pleasing to all. Here is my favorite.
